Oklahoma Arts Education Data Project

All students in Oklahoma deserve access to high-quality arts education curriculum that will provide them with the important skills they need to succeed in today’s competitive workforce.

Oklahomans for the Arts, the State Department of Education, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Kirkpatrick Family Fund have joined with the Arts Education Data Project to provide a new suite of tools to help increase participation and ensure student access to arts education.

The Oklahoma Arts Education Data Project is designed to help increase equity in access and participation in arts education. The dashboard reports school-, district- and regional-level data on arts education courses and participation across the state for pre-kindergarten through high school students.

The data can be used to help school leaders, parents and advocates determine the status of arts education access in Oklahoma schools, and identify and address what inequities exist. The data comes from the State Department of Education’s Annual Accreditation Report, which is completed by districts each October. It also includes demographic data is from the Common Core of Data file from the National Center for Education Statistics.

By having a complete picture of where schools currently stand, leaders will be able to take steps to close gaps in access to a core arts education curriculum in their districts.

Every District. Every School. Every Student.

The Arts Education Data Project has been working for more than a decade to create the proper conditions for arts education data reporting and presentation. Before the Arts Education Data Project, no one knew the true status and condition of arts education in the more than 100,000 schools serving more than 50 million students nationwide.

The nationwide project coordinates with participating states to collect and report arts education data from State Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) and other state departments of education data sets on an annual basis. Learn more at http://artseddata.org.

Funding for the Arts Education Data Project has been generously provided by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, NAMM Foundation, Ohio Arts Council, Educational Theatre Association and National Association for Music Education.
